Bay of Quinte - Oct 28
This was my first time fishing this area so I didn't really know what to expect. The 3 of us met at my place at 3am and left shortly thereafter; we arrived at Glenora, near Picton, just in time to make the 6:30 ferry crossing. We waited for it to get a little lighter, launched the boat, and headed east to the lighthouse area that I was told about. We started trolling at about 7:30. Had 4 lines out the side on planer boards with deep diving baits (Manns, deep taildancers, and reef runners) flat lined one out the chute and put a stick bait down 50' on the down rigger.
About 20min later the rigger pops - I figured there was nothing on it because the rod wasn't bouncing at all (I'm used to Salmon fishing). I start reeling it in and to my surprise there's some weight on it - we have our first walleye!
Put the same lure down at the same depth and about 5 minutes later... here's Paul with #2.
I then decided to set up the other down rigger as well and it started catching fish. Big ones too!
It didn't seem to matter what we put on the riggers - they just kept catching beautiful walleye! I tried changing up the lures on the planers, different colors, added weights, etc but at the end of the day we only got one and lost another on the planers. The rest were all taken on the riggers. Total count for the day was 12 for 14 on walleye (6 weighed in at over 9lbs), plus one sheepshead.
Here's Brian with the sheeper. It fought like a champ!
It slowed down in the afternoon but we picked up a couple at 3pm, just before we quit. Here's a group picture with the ones we kept.
It was a great day!

Wow, too bad they are so small!
Was that you Glen? If so, you should leave your name.
Yes Glen it was a great day. We'll have to head that way with our boys next fall.
Thanks for the comment.

Wow! That was a great day you had. Sure makes it worth getting up at 3am doesn't it! Let us know when you fry them up!
Thanks for the comment M&D. We've put the meat in the freezer as we're kinda out and about during the dinner hours for the next few days.
It's funny how easy it is to get up for fishing (even getting up at 2:30).
Nice Fish. Did you get any tubing in?
Nope, just body surfing. Lake Erie style.
That would be wild with a 115hp.
No really, great job on the walleye. Does it kinda spoil the Temsicaming walleye fishing for you?
Interesting question. I don't think so. Part of the enjoyment of fishing way up North is the remoteness and scenery. Yah, the fish are not as big but they're good eating and still fun to catch.
I guess you just adjust your expectations in terms of size.
