Bay of Quinte - Oct 28

This was my first time fishing this area so I didn't really know what to expect. The 3 of us met at my place at 3am and left shortly thereafter; we arrived at Glenora, near Picton, just in time to make the 6:30 ferry crossing. We waited for it to get a little lighter, launched the boat, and headed east to the lighthouse area that I was told about. We started trolling at about 7:30. Had 4 lines out the side on planer boards with deep diving baits (Manns, deep taildancers, and reef runners) flat lined one out the chute and put a stick bait down 50' on the down rigger.

About 20min later the rigger pops - I figured there was nothing on it because the rod wasn't bouncing at all (I'm used to Salmon fishing). I start reeling it in and to my surprise there's some weight on it - we have our first walleye!

Put the same lure down at the same depth and about 5 minutes later... here's Paul with #2.

I then decided to set up the other down rigger as well and it started catching fish. Big ones too!

It didn't seem to matter what we put on the riggers - they just kept catching beautiful walleye! I tried changing up the lures on the planers, different colors, added weights, etc but at the end of the day we only got one and lost another on the planers. The rest were all taken on the riggers. Total count for the day was 12 for 14 on walleye (6 weighed in at over 9lbs), plus one sheepshead.

Here's Brian with the sheeper. It fought like a champ!

It slowed down in the afternoon but we picked up a couple at 3pm, just before we quit. Here's a group picture with the ones we kept.

It was a great day!

Lake Erie Perchin'

Perchin at Port Dover was a disaster - only got 2. There were a few other boats out and they weren't doing any better. Should have went to Long Point Bay. By noon I had enough of not catching anything and motored over to Hydro (Naticoke outflow area) and caught a bass or a sheephead pretty much every cast. A lot of the Bass were 3.5 lbs like this guy.

Stopped in at Don Hyde Marine on the way home to pick up a part and met a fishboarder in person for the first time. Good chatting with you Steve.

December 2003 Lake Ontario Brown Trout

Hope to get into a few more of these in a couple months.
